Perry is Perry is a Chicago native born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. One of her first TV appearances were as Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played her role. Perry was forbidden to perform with her parents till she reached the age of adulthood because they were afraid of the stress it would create. Perry acknowledged that she was not comfortable acting in high school. However, she began performing as a means to meet new people during her time at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. After graduating Perry moved in New York to search for television work landing small roles on series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent however, her homesickness led the actress back to California which is where she discovered theater jobs. Perry was a part of Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. Her father played her on her role on the ABC Drama Scandal. The actress was also featured on her role on the CBS show The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. She was cast in the role despite her close relationship with the character's family.
